Dr. Chiara Bullen: Exploring Corporate Social Responsibility in 21st-Century Book Culture
Hello! I’m Chiara, a researcher based in Glasgow, Scotland. I recently completed my PhD across the disciplines of Publishing Studies, Literature and Law, investigating the effectiveness and impact of the morality clause and sensitivity reading in the publishing field. In my third year, I won a Saltire Emerging Researcher grant from the Scottish Funding Council and the Scottish Graduate School for the Arts and Humanities, which allowed me to visit the University of Münster for three months and write a chapter of my thesis within the Book Studies department. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and jumped at the opportunity to apply for a WiRe Fellowship.
During my WiRe fellowship, I will work on my project titled: “Inclusivity, Sustainability, Solidarity: Corporate Social Responsibility and Paratext in 21st-Century Book Culture” together with Prof. Corinna Norrick-Rühl of the Chair of Book Studies. This research aims to develop an understanding of the unique contribution of cultural production when investigated through a CSR lens and will further existing scholarship that examines the role of the book as a cultural object in the 21st century.
In my free time, I enjoy exploring the hills of Scotland or venturing through the fictional landscapes of Dungeons & Dragons with my party…!
